A Time Saver
*The included software is out of date. Go to codejunkies(dot)com for the latest version*My Xbox failed on me at the beginning of this year and Microsoft sent me a replacement. I do not know what the deal is but ever since then, there has been a problem with my saves getting corrupted. After the third time of having to start a game over, I figured I would need to find a way to back up those saves that I have poured hours into. I looked into getting a Microsoft memory card but was surprised at how expensive they were. Then I stumbled upon the Xport 360. With this I could back up the saves to my PC! Even better!After installing the included software, I took my first look into my Xbox HDD. Man was it confusing. After checking out the manual, I figured out where my saves were. Problem was they were not labeled by names. At this point I thought the product was useless. It would take a lot of work to figure out which games were which. That's when I glanced at the...

Nice alternative
Good to get if trying to get games off of an old harddrive. The cable Microsoft provides in unacceptable. It deletes everything after it copies it. With this, you can copy as much as you want and delete only what you want to.

Just what I wanted......and then some
Download the new program from codejunkies.com, it has support for newer hard drives and stuff. The program they give you on the minidisc is outdated. Best price on Amazon, normal msrp $50.The plastic is a little on the cheap side and my xbox 360 hard drive didn't exactly fit in. I took a razor and shaved off the tab in the back that the xbhd hooks onto since it never really fit anyhow. Now it just slides down and into the dock.The software is somewhat easy to use. I am sure you can do a lot more than what is says you can. It is somewhat temperamental. If you click on a certain folder it might freeze the program but you can just restart it. It should work fine for what you should be using it for.As you might have guessed, you will be saving these backups/images on your computers hard drive.This will allow you to make full backups of your xbox 360 hard drive (20, 60, 120 gig)as an image file. Good solution!
Ok let me start by saying that the usefulness of this product will be based on what you WANT it to do. If you want to use this to access your old memory cards on the NEW SLIM xbox 360 then this is the product for you. Here's the steps: Turn on 360. Plug card reader into a usb port on your 360. Plug in memory card, go to your xbox settings and access your memory card. It's LITERALLY as easy as plug in and access your stuff. I can't speak for people using this for other purposes, but if you just absolutely need to recover that old Orochi 2 saved game or whatever, THIS IS THE PRODUCT TO GET!!!!

It does work with 512 MB memory cards
The product works with 512 MB memory cards, and it works with Vista. You have to download an update already mentioned in a previous review from the maker's web site. It saves the complete image of a memory card and restores it the same way. I'm only interested in making copies of my own saves because some day that 360 hard drive is going to fail. It works just fine for that purpose, but they should have included the necessary software with it.

Works well, but has a certain learning curve to it.
The XSATA is an interesting product. To sum it up, it acts as a bridge between an Xbox 360 and its hard drive, with the ability to convert the SATA connection and convert it out to a USB port. This allows you to directly access the file system on the Xbox HDD, allowing for a "normal" viewing of the folder hierarchy. This means that data, including save games, movies, and really anything can be backed up to your computer's hard drive. The main use is to have a copy of your saved games in case a file gets corrupt or your HDD dies, although there are other uses, as I'll explain later.The first impressions of the device are not very good. Physically, it is light, and rather simple looking, and getting it onto the Xbox is a hassle. It uses a few plastic tabs that connect where the HDD normally would go, and getting it on properly can take several minutes the first time you try it. If you compare the price of the XSATA to the price of additional (or larger when they are available) XBox 360 hard drives this seems like a great deal. That's what prompted me to buy one as the 20GB drive fills up with downloads really fast. I ordered one of these the first day it was available for order online at the end of May.First let me describe the construction of the unit. It's hollow on the inside with two plastic half rings on either side of the unit. At each end there are a pair of LEDs, one touching the end of each half ring to create the blue glow. Because of this, the lighting is uneven, and really is only strongly blue in the front and the back, and it's a very light blue color. If you were so inclined, it would be very easy to swap LEDs (of any size) for the ones in the unit, if you don't like the color. Aside from this, there are two PCBs in the device: the one in the front has a pass through from the proprietary XBox 360 SATA interface with two short SATA...
